2005 Dodge Dakota Muffler Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Properly Service a Muffler on 2005 Dodge Dakota?
A: After placing the car on the hoist, remove the covering on the muffler and unbolt the pipe that goes to it. After that, remove the clamp between the muffler and catalytic converter (3) and the isolators at both ends of the muffler (1 and 4). Then, take out the muffler (5) from the catalytic converter. The fact is that the clamps are not designed to be used again after being removed, so they must be swapped out. Initially, join the new muffler with the catalytic converter by making sure the metal tang lies right in the alignment groove (1). Add a new exhaust clamp (4) for now, but do not tighten it yet and then set the muffler isolators and the exhaust pipe in place. Mate the muffler and pipe before placing and tightening the clamp nuts to 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.). Ensure the exhaust doesn't touch any part of the car and gives a clearance of 25.4 mm (1.0 inch) from body or frame pieces and adjust it if needed. After completing the check, slowly lower the vehicle, turn on the car engine and search for exhaust leaks, fixing any leaks that you find.
