2006 Dodge Durango Harmonic Balancer Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Harmonic Balancer and Crankshaft Pulley on 2006 Dodge Durango?
A: The first step in servicing and repairing the harmonic balancer and crankshaft pulley is to disconnect the negative cable from the battery, remove the radiator fan and untie the accessory drive belt. Following that, extract the damper from the area using Tools 8513 Insert and 1026 Three Jaw Puller after loosening the crankshaft damper bolt. Before you fit the damper, make certain the damper bore and the crankshaft nose are spotless to avoid major harm. Place the crankshaft damper slot onto the key in the crankshaft and slide it forward a little onto the shaft. Start with the nut and push it down over the threaded rod, then slide the roller bearing onto the rod, hardened surface up and finish by slipping the washer onto the rod. Slide on some Mopar Nickel Anti-Seize or something similar around the threads of the threaded rod. Attach the crankshaft damper to the crankshaft by pressing it with Special Tool 8512-A. Follow this by installing and tightening the crankshaft damper bolt to 175 Nm (130 ft. lbs.). Reconnect the radiator fan, add back the accessory drive belt and once more screw the negative battery cable to the battery.
