2005 Dodge Durango Oil Pan Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair an Oil Pan on 2005 Dodge Durango?
A: The first step for oil pan service or repair is to remove the negative battery cable and drain the cooling system. Take out the radiator fan and intake manifold and only make sure the Tool 8534 is placed on the engine without raising it. Lift the vehicle and take off the exhaust pipe attachment at the exhaust manifolds. Get rid of the cover, drain the engine oil and don't forget to take out the oil filter. Use a jack to support the engine which you can then unbolt through both left and right side engine mounts (1 and 3). Put blocks of wood under the engine between the brackets and lower mounts so it doesn't move during the process. Do not mess with the oil pan or gasket, since the gasket is part of the engine. Take out the bolts securing the oil pan and pick up the oil pan. Next, unbolt the oil pump pickup tube and pull it out with the gasket. Solvent wash your oil pan and wipe it dry with a clean cloth so the oil pan gasket is clean without being scratched. Deeply clean the oil screen and tube in a container with clean solvent. Look over the threads on the drain plug and the plug hole and if any are broken or weak, get them repaired. Also, straighten out the oil pan mounting flange if you notice any bends or distortion. While installing, scrub the box mating surface of the oil pan and bedplate clean and replace the integrated gasket if it is damaged. Set the gasket/windage tray in place and add the oil pickup tube to the engine. If the stud is missing, fit it at position No. 9, screw in the bolt and secure it with nuts tightened to 28 Nm (20 ft. lbs.). Set the oil pan in place and add the mounting bolts, turning them to 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.) as the sequence suggests. Should the car have a dust cover, fit it over the structure, then lower the engine into the mounts using Special Tool 8534 and attach both engine mounts through bolts, tightening them to 57 ft. lbs. Remove Special Tool 8534, connect the intake manifold, add oil to the engine, attach the negative battery cable back and start the engine to look for leaks.
