2006 Dodge Durango Oil Pan Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Fix an Oil Pan on 2006 Dodge Durango?
A: To do the service or repair, start by taking off the negative battery cable and draining the cooling system. Take out the radiator fan and intake manifold and attach Tool 8534 below the engine while it's still in place. Put your car up on a hoist and separate the exhaust pipe from the exhaust system at the manifolds. Take off the cover from the engine, run the engine to drain the oil and remove the filter afterwards. Lift the engine and locate a jack under it. Unbolt each side mount from the frame using the bolts shown in the picture (1) and (3). Lift the engine to provide enough room for the oil pan to be removed and set blocks of wood between the engine brackets and the lower mounts to keep everything stable. Never bother with the oil pan or gasket, because the gasket is secured to the engine. Take out the bolts that hold the oil pan in place, along with the pan, then unbolt and remove the oil pump pickup tube and the same-sized gasket. Wash the oil pan in solvent and let it dry on a clean cloth so that the gasket surface stays undamaged. Clearly clean both the screen and tube in a solvent and allow them to dry. Make sure the threads on the drain plug and hole are not damaged and check the oil pan mounting flange for bends; if found, straighten the mounting flange. When installing, clean both the oil pan gasket surface on the bed plate and the surface on the oil pan, examine the integrated oil pan gasket and change it if required. Your integrated oil pan gasket/windage tray should be placed into position and the oil pickup tube needs to be installed. Should you need to remove this stud, sec Set up the oil pan and fit the mounting bolts, but tighten them only to 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.) following the correct sequence. If the car is equipped, put on the structural dust cover, use Special Tool 8534 to lower the engine into the mounts and fix the mount bolts to 68 Nm (50 ft. lbs.) after installation. Take out Special Tool 8534, fasten the intake manifold, fill the engine with oil, hook the negative battery lead back up and start the vehicle to watch for leaks.
