2005 Dodge Neon Clock Spring Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain a Clock Spring Assembly on 2005 Dodge Neon?
A: Before working on the Clock Spring Assembly, put the front road wheels in the forward path and remove the negative battery cable. Allow two minutes for the system reserve capacitor to empty before continuing. Remove the steering wheel and afterwards take off the upper and lower steering column shrouds to expose the clock spring wiring. After that, take out the multi-function switch and cut the 7-way connector between the clock spring and the instrument panel wiring harness at its base. After lifting the top latch's tab a bit, push the rotor in the clock spring left 180 degrees and secure it to the center by going through the hole on the rotor with the paper clip. When installing, put the clock spring on the steering shaft and press down the rotor until it's all the way in. When fitting a new clock spring, line up the front wheels forwards and take out the locking pin. Connect the end of the clock spring to the instrument panel harness and confirm both the cables are routed correctly and that the connectors and locking tabs fit together. Next, place the multi-function switch and then cover the column with the shrouds to run all cables inside. Slide in the steering wheel, so the flat on the hub fits the clock spring and line up the wires for the horn, air bag and speed control through the bottom opening to prevent them from getting jammed. Wire the speed control wire to the switch after that and link the horn connector and the air bag squib connector to the driver air bag. Then, set the steering wheel and the driver air bag in place and tighten each bolt to at least 12 Nm (105 in. lbs.) torque.
