2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Air Bag Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service the Air Bag Sensor in the B-Pillar on 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: First, turn off the air bags, unplug the technical cable from the battery and then pause the process for two minutes to remove all discharge from the capacitor. Never hit or drop the sensor, because it could get damaged or need to be reprogrammed if broken. Pull the seat in as far as it will go toward the front to reach under the B-pillar and then take off the trim. Release the side impact sensor by removing its screws and unplugging the body wire harness connector from the sensor. Take the sensor out from the B-pillar. For installing, put the new side sensor by the inner B-pillar, attach the connector to the body harness and make sure the anti-rotation pin is placed well into the B-pillar's clearance hole. Put together the sensor with the 2 screws and tighten them to 8 N.m (70 in. lbs.), then attach the lower part of the trim again. Wait to attach the battery's negative cable until the SR validation test has finished after any supplemental restraint system component is serviced.
