2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Brake Light Switch Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Brake Light Switch on 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: The very first step is to detach and isolate the negative cable of the battery before working on the brake light switch. Carefully pull off the cover on the steering column and lower trim panel and then apply the pedal with complete pressure to the floor. Counterclockwise rotation of the switch about 30° will remove the retainer which you should then pull backwards out of the bracket. Take the switch harness off and take out the switch from your vehicle. Extend the switch plunger to its furthest place down, as you link (1) the switch's terminals to the electrodes. Press the brake pedal and keep it applied halfway, then insert the switch by finding the notch on the switch bracket and rotating the switch clockwise about 30° to lock it. Lift off the brake and pull backward on the brake pedal a little way; this will set the plunger where it should be and let the switch click as it is adjusted automatically. Taking precautions becomes necessary when the pedal pull is more than 20 lbs.
