2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee Air Bag Sensor Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service an Air Bag Sensor on 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: Take care of the front impact sensor by first disconnecting the negative cable from the battery and wait for the system to discharge after two minutes. Separate the headlamp and dash wire harness connector from the front impact sensor connector receptacle and unscrew the two nuts securing the sensor to the back support studs. When installing, fit the sensor into the engine compartment, with the anti-rotation pin in the radiator support's center hole and the arrow from the label ahead. Return the sensor to its previous place after reconnecting its headlamp and dash wire harness, then screw the outer and inner nuts until you reach 8 N.m (70 in. lbs.). Connect the battery negative cable after the procedure for checking the supplemental restraint system is finished. Before adjusting the B-pillar side impact sensor, place the front seat far enough forward, remove the battery negative terminal and wait for two minutes. Disconnect the trim from the lower B-pillar, unplug the body wire harness from the side impact sensor and remove both screws holding the sensor to the B-pillar. Place the new sensor inside the inner B-pillar, making sure the anti-rotation pin is locked and install and nurt tight the screws to 8 N.m (70 in. lbs.). After the lower trim is installed, just move the battery negative cable before performing the verification test. Take the cable you disconnected from the battery negative and put it back where you removed it, along with the filter and then wait for two minutes before starting the work. Lift out the quarter trim panel from the lower C-pillar, pull the wire connector off the side impact sensor and remove the two holding screws inside the C-pillar. Put the new sensor onto the inner C-pillar, insert the anti-rotation pin and screw it tight at 8 N.m (70 in. lbs.), plugging the body wire harness cable back in. Install the quarter trim panel and postpone connecting the battery negative cable until the transponder is checked. No special effort is needed to know if the front or side impacts sensor was used, as both are the same.
