2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Brake Pad Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Maintain Your Brake Pads for Optimal Performance on 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: The first step to servicing the rear disc brake pads is to support and lift the vehicle and then remove the rear wheel and its tire. Drain a bit of fluid from the master cylinder brake reservoir using a clean suction gun. Bulk the piston open in the caliper by forcing the top of the caliper over it, then rip out both slide pins and take off the caliper from the anchor. Hook the caliper on another part of the suspension using wire so it doesn't sit on the brake hose. Then, take away the brake pads that sit on the side closer to the wheel and those on the other side. Begin installation by placing both brake pads into the caliper, adding caliper slide grease or the manufacturer's suggested grease to the slide pins and their corresponding bushings and installing the caliper to the anchor. Fit the caliper slide pin bolts and tighten them till you reach 25 Nm or 18 ft. lbs. Fit the wheel and tire back in place, take out the support and let the vehicle down. Once automatic brakes are closed, pedal the brakes a few times until you get a solid brake pedal and follow up by filling the brake fluid if it's low.
