2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Seat Belt Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Fix a Front Seat Belt on 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: To look after and repair the front seat belt, look at all the parts, including seat belts, buckles, attaching hardware, retractors, tether straps and anchors, checking them for installation problems or damage. Fix any cut or torn belts and tighten all the fasteners. Pull the front seat as far forward as you can so you have enough space to reach the lower anchor cover and the B-pillar trim. Pull the lower anchor cover away from the front seat cushion's outboard side shield, then take out the screw that holds the anchor to the seat frame underneath. Simply pull the trim cover near the headrest from the upper B-pillar to unsnap it, then remove the small screw that holds the seat belt turning loop to the adjustment handle and remove the turning loop. Take off the B-pillar trim at the top inside the car, carefully remove the seat belt cover and take off the lower B-pillar trim as well. Pull out the seat belt by its front loop and anchor, passing it through the seat belt opening and after you remove the screw holding the lower retractor part to the inner B-pillar, take them both as a unit. Check that the retractor shield is on securely and undamaged prior to fitting the retractor in your vehicle. Using a 39 N.m (29 ft. lbs.) screw, fasten the lower bracket of the retractor to the steering column and move the lower seat belt anchor loop to the steering wheel location. Afterward, set the lower trim and cover into the B-pillar. Place the upper part of the trim and guide the belt turning loop onto the seat adjustment mechanism, making sure none of the webbing is twisted. Place the turning loop onto the height adjuster using the screw and tighten it until you reach 39 N.m (29 ft. lbs.). After that, click the turning loop trim cover into position. Route the webbing of the lower anchor underneath, so it does not get twisted and correctly attach it to the front seat frame's mounting hole and tighten with a screw to 39 N.m (29 ft. lbs.). Afterwards, attach the lower anchor cover to the front seat cushion outboard side shield.
