2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Seat Belt Parts and Q&A
Q: Are Your Seat Belts Properly Inspected and Replaced After a Service on 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: After any seat belt service, be sure to check each seat belt, buckle, mounting hardware and retractor for proper functioning or damage. If found, replace any cut, frayed or torn belt; untwist any belt that is twisted; tighten any fasteners that seem loose; and replace any belt with a defective or unworking buckle or retractor, along with any belt with an anchor plate or latch plate that is bent or not working; never try to fix any seat belt part and use the proper replacement parts from Mopar Parts Catalog. Adjust the front seat to the forward position; remove the battery negative cable; lift the cover attached to the lower B-pillar to access the screw holding the front seat belt; and remove that screw. Gently prise open the top of the turning loop trim cover with a trim stick, so the front seat belt turning loop is removed from the adjuster and you can access the screw joining the loop to the adjuster on the B-pillar, then undo the screw and take the loop off the adjuster. Take out the trim from the lower B-pillar, pull the front seat belt and lower anchor down through the hole in the lower B-pillar, remove the plastic fastener securing the retractor, release the retractor locator tab from the slot in the B-pillar and pull out the seat belt and retractor as a set. Before installing the retractor, put the retractor shield into the clamp under the lower B-pillar and make certain it is in good shape, position the front seat belt and retractor as a unit to the B-pillar, place the retractor mounting post in the slot provided at the bottom of the B-pillar and use your hand strength to attach a plastic fastener to secure the retractor in the lower B-pillar. Thread the bottom anchor and the turning loop of the seat belt through the hole in the trim around the lower B-pillar, put the trim back onto the lower B-pillar, line up the turning loop on the height adjuster at the top of the B-pillar, screw and tighten the turning loop to the height adjuster at 37 Nm (27 ft. lbs.) and press the cover from the top of the turning loop trim onto the height adjuster to cover the screw. Attach the front seat belt lower anchor to the lower B-pillar, fasten and tighten the screw to 37 Nm (27 ft lbs.), cover the lower anchor using the front seat belt cover and tie the negative battery cable back in place.
