2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee Seat Belt Parts and Q&A
Q: How Should You Handle Seat Belt and Child Restraint Anchor Services on 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: After and during each seat belt or child restraint anchor service, check all seat belts, buckles, mounting pieces, retractors, tether cords and anchors to make sure they are installed well, in good working order or not damaged. Change any belt if it's been cut, if frayed or has noticeable tears, straighten any twisted belt, tighten any loose fasteners and swap any belt that has a damaged or broken buckle or retractor, along with any belt that has a bent or damaged latch plate or anchor plate. In addition, change any child seat harness anchor or anchor that is part of the child seat if it has been bent or damaged. Do not try to repair a seat belt or restraint system component; always use the right, new and unused parts listed in the Daimlerchrysler Mopar Parts Catalog to replace damaged components. First, take out the left rear seat back panel and the trim from its back to remove the rear center seat belt and retractor unit. Disconnect the lower seat belt anchor from the loop at the top of the seat back using the web guide. After that, pull the cable end fitting from the latch on the top outboard corner of the seat back, then remove the cable from the space between the latch and retractor on the back panel. Open the back of the seat back panel, take out the screw and then remove the rear center seat belt and retractor unit from the left seat back panel. To place the seat, attach the rear center seat belt and retractor unit to the front of the left seat back panel, screw in and tighten the screw at the back that fastens the retractor to 43 N.m (32 ft. lbs.), run the lock cable from the retractor to the seat back latch mechanism and secure the other end of the cable to the seat back latch. Begin by feeding the seat belt lower anchor into the top seat back loop, then place the left rear seat back trim in place and then set the left rear seat back panel.
