2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Washer Reservoir Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Fix a Washer Reservoir on 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: The first step to servicing the windshield washer reservoir is to disconnect and isolate the negative battery terminal before starting. Unscrew the washer's reservoir filler cap and pull the filler cap hinge off of the hook on the filler neck. Take out the retainer that secures the washer reservoir filler neck to the upper radiator support and raise and support the vehicle. Take the liner off the wheel house on the left front fender to reach the washer reserve. Remove the wire harness connectors from the washer fluid level switch and the windshield washer pump and remember how the disconnected hoses were positioned. Take off both washer hoses from the washer pump and catch the fluid in a clean container so you can reuse it later on. Remove the two bolts holding the washer reservoir to the left front frame rail and, while doing so, make sure you don't damage it. After removing the reservoir, lift it out of the car by rotating it when needed. For installation, lift the washer reservoir into the wheel well under the driver's front fender, making sure the filler tube sits within the engine compartment. Mount the washer reservoir on the left front rail by attaching each screw securely at 7 N.m (60 in. lbs.). Be sure to attach washer hoses correctly to the windshield washer pump; this prevents problems with the operation of the front and rear washer systems. Secure the wire harness connectors to the washer fluid level switch and the windshield washer pump, then place the liner into the left front fender wheel house and remove your car from the lift. Connect the retainer that holds the reservoir filler neck to the upper radiator support, hook the filler cap hinge onto the neck and shut the cap. Make sure the wash reservoir has washer fluid topped up, then hook back up the negative cable from the battery.
