2005 Jeep Liberty Ball Joint Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Fix a Front Suspension Ball Joint on 2005 Jeep Liberty?
A: Begin by removing the tire and wheel assembly and then remove the brake caliper and rotor to service and repair the lower ball joint in the front suspension. Cut the tie rod at the steering knuckle and move the steering knuckle unto the car. With a halfshaft installed, move it aside and hold it out of the way for now. Extreme pressure lubrication should be applied to the threaded sections of tools to help them last longer and operate correctly in the insertion and removal process. First, put the steering knuckle inside a vise and then remove the ball joint boot. Using special tools C-4212-F, 8859-2 and 8859-1, press the ball joint out of the steering knuckle. During installation, keep the ball joint boot securely covered by the plastic shipping sleeve and use tools C-4212-F (press), 8859-3 (driver) and 6761 (receiver) to set the ball joint into the knuckle. Secure the ball joint, relocate the ball joint boot, take off the support for the halfshaft if it's present, reinstall it and then fit the steering knuckle. After reconnecting the tie rod end to the steering knuckle, tighten the halfshaft nut to 136 Nm (100 ft. lbs.). First, reinstall the caliper and rotor and afterwards, reconnect the tire and wheel assembly. After that, test the car's ride height and get the wheels aligned.
