2006 Chrysler Crossfire Steering Knuckle Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Reinstall a Steering Knuckle on 2006 Chrysler Crossfire?
A: First, lift and support the car, next take off the front wheel with the tire, then remove the front disc caliper and rotor. After that, untighten and take off the three bolts holding the front wheel hub and the disc brake dust shield in place. Remove the bolt from the Stepping knuckle and take the Wheel Speed Sensor straight out. Check the boot of each ball joint for cracks or damage and replace or repair it when required. You might require an alien wrench to help you hold the ball joint stud as you take off the nut. Unbolt the nut at the tie rod joint stud to loosen it, then press the tie rod end out of the steering knuckle with Special Tool C-3894-A Two Jaw Puller. Whether you like it or not, you may still need something strange. With the nut off the ball joint stud, release the lower control arm from the steering knuckle and be sure not to use a pneumatic tool to tighten the bolt on the special tool. Force the ball joint to exit the steering knuckle by turning Special Tool 9168 Ball Joint Puller. Unscrew the upper control arm nut from the upper ball joint stud and use Special Tool 9168 Ball Joint Puller to force the upper ball joint out of the steering knuckle, not using pneumatic tools for tightening. Be sure to remove the knuckle in a gentle manner from your vehicle. Remove the nuts from the ball joint attaching the lower control arm. Then, use Special Tool 9168 Ball Joint Puller to press out the ball joint for inspection. Allow the boot's catch to move freely, without stress or creaking sounds and look for any damage or cracks; replace if the boot is producing a leak. Take care of measuring the steering knuckle when needed. Take the steering knuckle and nut and, attaching them to the stud on the ball joint, tighten them to 45 Nm. After that, add the steering knuckle and nut to the lower ball joint stud, using a torque wrench at 105 Nm before you tighten the tie rod end and its nut to a torque of 50 Nm. Reattach the Wheel Speed Sensor, bolting it securely and tighten the bolt to 22 Nm. After that, mount the disc brake dust shield using three metallic bolts and tighten them to 22 Nm. At this point, install the hub on the front wheel, put the brake disc and caliper back, then reattach the front wheel and tire, lower the vehicle and carry out a vehicle alignment check.
