2007 Chrysler Crossfire Steering Knuckle Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove a Steering Knuckle on 2007 Chrysler Crossfire?
A: First, lift and brace the car, then pull off the front wheel and tire. Then, remove the front disc brake caliper and rotor and afterwards take out the front wheel hub. Take off the disc brake dust shield by leaving loose the three hex bolts and remove the Wheel Speed Sensor by releasing the single bolt and pulling it straight from the knuckle. Make sure there is no damage or wear on the ball joint rubber boot and take care of it if any is found. It may be difficult to hold the ball joint stud without an allen wrench when you try to remove the nut. Don't tighten the bolt on the special tool with pneumatic tools. Loosen the fastener from the tie rod joint stud of the steering knuckle, followed by pushing the tie rod end out by using Special Tool C-3894-A Two Jaw Puller. Then, remove the nut from the ball joint stud to decouple the lower control arm ball joint from the steering knuckle and press the ball joint out with Special Tool 9168 Ball Joint Puller. Disconnect the upper ball joint from the steering knuckle by pushing it out with Special Tool 9168 Ball Joint Puller. Take the knuckle carefully from the vehicle. For inspection, unscrew the nuts from the lower control arm that holds the ball joint and fit the Ball Joint Puller Special Tool 9168 to press the lower control arm supporting ball joint out. Check if the ball pivot moves freely, looks for cracks and damage on the boot and if the boot leaks, you should replace the supporting or follower joint. Measure the steering knuckle if it's required.
