2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser Exhaust Manifold Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Maintain an Exhaust Manifold on 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: Before service the exhaust manifold which links with the Turbocharger in Turbocharged vehicles, take out the clean air hose and the air cleaner housing. Get rid of the negative terminal from the battery, then separate the throttle and speed control cables from the throttle lever and bracket. The next step is to unplug the MAP sensor connector and take out the bolts that fix the power steering fluid reservoir to the cylinder head. Then, come to the coolant recovery container and remove it from your vehicle. Release the bolts that are holding the upper heat shield on and then remove the heat shield. Lift the vehicle and take the exhaust pipe off the manifold. Take out the wiring heat shield under the engine, the support bracket for the manifold and the heat shield under the lower exhaust manifold. Unplug the electrical cable from the oxygen sensor and get rid of the lower retaining bolts from the exhaust manifold. With the vehicle down, get rid of the upper retaining fasteners before you lift out the exhaust manifold above the engine and cowl panel. Toss out the manifold gasket and clean the surface of both the manifold and the cylinder head. Check that the gasket areas are smoothly flat, within 0.15 mm per 300 mm of measurement and quickly change out any manifolds with flaws or signs of distortion. When installing, lay the exhaust manifold gasket on the head, align the manifold with it, tighten the bolts to 23 Nm as you raise and lower the vehicle and don't use any glue. Adjust all of the bolts until they have reached the right torque. Hold down the airbox and set the exhaust manifold heat shields, secured with 12 Nm of torque, alongside their support bracket. Plug the electrodes of the oxygen sensor connector, install the exhaust pipe with a new gasket in place and tighten the fasteners to 28 Nm. After that, install the coolant recovery tank, close the power steering fluid reservoir, link the MAP sensor to its plug and join the throttle and speed control cables together. Next, link the negative wire again to the battery and attach the clean air hose and air cleaner back in place.
