• Q: How to Maintain and Fix a Washer Reservoir on 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser?

  A: In order to clean and fix up the windshield washer reservoir one must start by opening the hood and removing the negative cable of the battery. With a trim stick (special tool #C-4755) carefully pry up the wiper arm nut cap and remove followed by wiper arm retaining nut. Pull the arm off of the pivot by a rocking movement when it is in an over centered condition. Then remove the right cowl cover that superimposes the left side cover by loosening the rear engine compartment seal seal at the cowl and then the four push retainers that holds the right side cowl cover. Take out the three retaining screws of the reservoir in the cowl, pull off the pump wire connector, and the washer hose connections, and with the washer reservoir tip up, remove it to a bucket of drain. In case of replacing the washer reservoir, relocate the washer pump to new one that will be accompanied by a new grommet on the washer pump. Unstrap the plastic line off of the pump, peel the pump off of the reservoir and of the grommet. To install it, push the pump through the pump grommet, over the pump assembly place the plastic strap and slide it into the reservoir making it secure. Install the reservoir in back into the cowl area and hook up the washer hoses remembering the white stripe hose should be hooked to the white side of the pump and the black should be hooked to the black side. Connect the pump wire connection, insert the 3 reservoir retaining screws and tighten them to 8 N.m (70 in. lbs.). Install cowl cover by inserting it into place and attaching the four push retainers then the seal at the cowl, rear engine compartment. Ensure that the wiper system is activated before installing the front wiper arms to get the front wiper module in PARK position, then set the wiper arms in the position whereby the center of the passenger wiper blade and the tip of the driver wiper blade both match the park line on the windshield. Position the arm on the pivot with an over/centered position, install the wiper arm retaining nut and tighten it to 21 N.m (190 in. lbs.) and then the wiper arm nut cap. At last put the battery negative cable back, close the hood and test both the vehicle and system.
