2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser Wheel Bearing Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Wheel Bearing on Rear Disc Brake on 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: Before working on the wheel bearing on rear disc brake vehicles, you need to lift and support the vehicle. Take the rear wheel mounting nuts out and then remove the whole tire and wheel assembly. Afterward, remove the guide pin bolts from the disc brake caliper and pull off the caliper from the disc brake adapter, hanging it somewhere out of the way by using a wire hanger or bungee cord to prevent its flex hose from hanging onto anything that might damage it. Once the clips are removed, then take off the brake rotor. Open the dust cover on the hub and bearing, remove the hub nut and take the whole assembly off from the spindle. Attach both the hub and the bearing to the spindle by sliding them on and after that, put on a new hub nut, tightening it to require 217 Nm of pressure. Put in the new hub and dust cap, add the caliper and brake rotor and then tighten the caliper guide pin bolts to 22 Nm. Connect the disc brake flex hose to the axle, put on the wheel again and attach both wheels to the car with wheel nuts tightened to 135 Nm. When done, lower the vehicle, push the brake pedal a few times and try the brakes before driving away.
