2006 Dodge Dakota Harmonic Balancer Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Harmonic Balancer and Crankshaft Pulley on 2006 Dodge Dakota?
A: To address the harmonic balancer and crankshaft pulley, first disconnect the negative battery cable, take out the radiator fan and finally remove the accessory drive belt. After that, use Special Tools 8513 Insert and 1026 Three Jaw Puller to take out the damper by removing the damper bolt. Always clean the damper bore and crankshaft nose well before installing the damper to prevent harm to the engine. Place the damper's slot over the key in the crankshaft and slide it onto the crankshaft slightly. For Special Tool 8512-A, insert the nut onto the threaded rod first, put the roller bearing on the rod so that the hardened side faces the nut and slide the hardened washer on afterwards. Layer the threads of the threaded rod with Mopar Nickel Anti-Seize or with a similar product. Engage Special Tool 8512-A to set the damper onto the crankshaft and install the belt and tighten the mounting bolt on the damper to 175 Nm (130 ft. lbs.). With all that done, place the radiator fan, put the belt for the accessories back on and connect the negative cable to the battery.
