2005 Dodge Dakota Knock Sensor Parts and Q&A
Q: How Are Knock Sensors Installed and Connected in an Engine on 2005 Dodge Dakota?
A: The 2 knock sensors are fitted into the engine block, under the intake manifold, where the larger bolt head and ID tag marked LEFT show where the left sensor is located. The PCM needs to understand what position the sensors are in which is why it's important to keep the left and right sensors in the proper places when installing them. Afterward, cut off all connections of the knock sensor dual pigtail harness from the engine harness which is found next to the rear of the engine. Then, take out the sensor mounting bolts, taking care not to touch the attached foam strip since it is only used to hold the bolts in place for plant assembly and should not be treated with any sealant; do not add any adhesive or chemical to these bolts. After removing the knock sensors, clean the holes for the knock sensors inside the engine cylinder block before you install them again. Be sure not to tighten the mounting bolts too tightly or loosely, since it can make the knock sensor work wrong and cause misfiring and always tighten them to the torque confirmed for the knock sensor. When the mounting bolts are power torqued as required, return the intake manifold and connect the knock sensor wiring harness to the engine harness on the rear side of the intake.
