2006 Dodge Dakota Ignition Coil Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Install and Remove an Ignition Coil on 2006 Dodge Dakota?
A: A spark plug is supplied with its own ignition coil which is set into the holes along the contact directly from the engine block. Found near the bottom is a rubber boot that closes the spark plug. Connecting this tube to the spark plug is a spring that remains part of the coil and is not to be serviced apart. The coil is sealed by an O-ring at the opening that goes into the cylinder head. In some cases, you'll need to remove the throttle body air intake tube or intake box to get the coil out. Press down on the lock button and slide out the electrical connector from the coil. Before releasing the nut that holds your coil in place, blow compressed air beneath the coil. Pull the coil out of its slot in the cylinder head with some twisting and get it out of your vehicle. Blow away any dirt from the top of the spark plug using compressed air. While you're there, inspect the coil O-ring and change it when it's worn. For easier installation, silicone the coil O-ring, fit the coil into the cylinder head opening and then push it onto the spark plug as you slide the coil base over the mounting stud. Mount the stud nut on the coil, tighten it with 8 N.m (70 in.lbs) of force and finally snap the electrical connector onto the coil. If required, start the process again with the throttle body air tube replacement.
