2006 Dodge Durango Knock Sensor Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Properly Remove and Install a Left Knock Sensor on 2006 Dodge Durango?
A: The left knock sensor has the word LEFT printed on its tag, as well as a bigger bolt head and it's very important that the PCM recognizes which sensor is where to avoid confusion. Prime the work by removing the knock sensor dual pigtail harness from the engine wiring harness near the back of the engine before removing the bolts from under the intake manifold. After that, loosen and remove the intake manifold and sensor mounting bolts; the foam on the threads is only used during plant assembly and should be left untouched, as no sealant or thread locking compound should be applied there. When the sensors are removed from the engine, take time to clean the holes where they mounted before putting in the new ones. Ensure you don't tighten the mounting bolts too much or too little, since this can harm the knock sensor and always stick to the specified torque of 20 N.m (176 in.lbs.) which is quite low for an 8 mm bolt. After that, fit the intake manifold and plug in the knock sensor wiring harness to the engine harness at the back of the intake manifold.
