How to Maintain and Fix an Oil Filter on 2006 Dodge Ram 1500?

The first step is to put a drain pan under the oil filter. Release the filter cap with the right wrench. Turn the oil filter counterclockwise to get it out of the oil filter boss in the cylinder block. As soon as the filter housing comes apart, tip up the side holding the filter gasket to reduce oil spill and remove the filter. Rub down the oil and dirt on the gasket sealing surface with a wiping cloth. During installation, put a little oil on the gasket of the oil filter. Slide the filter onto the adapter nipple and when the gasket touches the sealing surface, tighten the filter hand tight as you would a bolt. Then, add oil, check the oil in the crankcase and begin the engine as you observe for oil on the ground.
