2006 Jeep Commander Door Latch Assembly Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Rear Door Latch Assembly on 2006 Jeep Commander?
A: Service and repair of the rear door latch start by removing the watershield. Remove the integral rods from the door's exterior handle and interior handle by disconnecting them from the latch. After that, unhook the door wire harness connector from the rear door latch and undo the three screws that hold the latch to the door, removing the latch and rods together. If you have to, disconnect all the actuator rods from the actuator. Once the rods are installed, fasten the retainers to the latch on the back door. Make sure the lock knob rod goes through the inner door panel opening as you fit the rear door latch and actuator rods together into the door. Use three bolts to make sure the rear door latch is secure, ensuring the torque is set at 10.5 N.m (95 in.lbs). Connect one side of the door wire harness plug to the rear door latch, install the rod from the interior handle actuator onto the latch, attach the retainer and match the rod to the rear outside door handle. After that, fit the watershield on the door behind and secure it with the rear door latch.
