2006 Jeep Commander Door Hinge Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Fix a Door Hinge Without Taking Off the Door on 2006 Jeep Commander?
A: If each rear door hinge is replaced one after the other and the proper body sealant is used, the door does not have to be removed. First, start with the front door and remove the rear door wire harness from the body one. Draw a line on the B-pillar at the rear door hinge location with a grease pencil, lift the door off the ground with a proper tool and undo the five bolts from the hinges to the B-pillar. Take out the rear door and set it on a table, then mark the Sitting where the door's hinges are attached on the back of the door. You should not remove the epoxy bonded washers attached to the door hinges; if you do, you will likely need to reposition the door. After that, remove all of the nuts that secure the hinges at the back of the door to the doorpost. When installing, fasten the back hinge to the door and if the epoxy washers are no longer in place, add them now. Gently put on the nuts that hold the hinges to the rear door, adjust the hinges according to the marks you made during removal and tighten the nuts to 31 N.m (23 ft.lbs). Push the rear door against the body and use a device to lift it, then crudely add the bolts that link the door hinges to the B-pillar. Start with the rear door by fitting it to the body using the saved marks from removal and secure the bolts to 28 N.m (21 ft.lbs). Last, match the rear door wire harness to the body wire harness, attach the negative battery cable again and change the rear door if necessary.
