2006 Jeep Commander Steering Column Cover Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Fix a Steering Column Cover on 2006 Jeep Commander?
A: Before you begin steering column cover service or repair, detach and isolate the vehicle's battery negative cable. Take out the three bolts and the panel for the side of the driver's seat. Drag a trim stick C-4755 or a similar tool between the headrope linkages and then lower the cover to let go of the lower hinges and pull off the opening cover. Loosen the cover from above by rotating it to the carpet and pulling up and back to snap the two pins near the base out. While you install it, snap each lower steering column opening cover hinge over its pivot and then lift the cover so that the upper fastener clips are fully clicked into place. After that, fit the front tabs into the chosen slots and use the three screws to fasten them.
