2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee A/C Expansion Valve Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair an A/C Expansion Valve on 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: Before working on the system, empty the refrigerant from the system and remove the negative battery cable. After removing the tube and resonator, remove the nut that holds both the A/C suction line and A/C liquid line to the A/C expansion valve. Take off the A/C suction and liquid lines that are connected to the A/C expansion valve and throw away the O-rings. Put plastic plugs in the openings or cover the fittings with electrical tape and arrange the lines so they stay out of anyone's way. Unfasten the two bolts holding the A/C expansion valve to the evaporator tube tapping block, lift out the expansion valve and throw away the old O-rings. Again, fit or tape a plug into every evaporator tube and insert tape into all expansion valve ports. Before installation, take off the protective tape from the tube fittings as well as all expansion valve ports. Add clean oil from the A/C compressor to the new O-ring seals and install them only on the evaporator tube fittings, using the recommended seals and refrigerant oil for the R - 134a system. Put the A/C expansion valve onto the evaporator tube tapping block and secure it with two bolts, tightening each to 11 N.m (97 in. lbs.). After finishing with the tape or plugs, apply refrigerant oil to newly purchased O-ring seals, use the matching types for the A/C suction and liquid lines and attach them to the lines, following the instruction manual. Secure the suction and liquid A/C lines together at the expansion valve and screw on the included nut to a torque of 23 N.m (17 ft. lbs.). Fit the air intake tube and resonator, link the negative battery cable once more, extract all the refrigerant and then replenish it.
