2006 Jeep Liberty Brake Disc Parts and Q&A
Q: How Can a Worn Brake Disc Be Machined on 2006 Jeep Liberty?
A: If the brake disc shows signs of scoring or wears out, it can be machined on a lathe that works on both sides with two cutter heads. Always clean the mounting area on the lathe before inserting the brake disc, since tapered brake discs might be produced on equipment that only faces one side. It is suggested to install a hub mounted on-vehicle lathe to ensure the brake disc is perfectly aligned with the wheel hub. If a brake disc's thickness falls below the standard after machining, it must be replaced. The brake drum in hat brake disc should be machined only when needed, on a drum lathe, with small cuts kept to 0.12 - 0.20 mm (0.005 - 0.008 inch) for the best finish. Recommended for the best surface finish are final blades of 0.025 to 0.038 mm (0.001 to 0.0015 inch). Securely fix the drum in hat brake disc in the lathe and attach a damper strap to keep negative vibrations from causing chatter marks on the drum. The largest permitted diameter of the drum braking part is stamped or cast into the drum and it must be replaced if machining takes this size beyond that limit.
