2006 Jeep Liberty Brake Line Parts and Q&A
Q: How Should You Service and Repair a Brake Line on 2006 Jeep Liberty?
A: Recommended brake hose and line service and repair parts are pre-formed metal tubes. However, double-wall steel can be used as a back up if the proper metal tube parts are unavailable. Metal brake tubes must be bent carefully using special tools, while double or ISO flares are only made with special flaring tools. Trim the damaged section off the tube using a Tubing Cutter and after that, ream the new openings shrinking each end into a proper flare. Attach a new tube nut to the tube and place the tube into the end of the flaring tool. Push the end of the gauge tube into the flaring tool and through the jaws until it reaches and fits in the small notch in the gauge that matches your tube. Wind up the tool bar around the tube, drop the plug into the gauge, swing the compression disc over the gauge and put the tapered flaring screw into the center of the disc. Firmly tighten the handle as the plug gauge is seated in the flaring jaws to start the flaring process, remove the plug gauge and finish the inverted flare. Initial steps for ISO flaring are to remove the affected part by cutting, then remove any sharp insides from the tube. Screw the tube nut on the end of the tube, set it at the top of the flaring tool and tighten the tool bar. Attach the correct-sized adaptor to the flaring tool yoke screw, grease the adaptor, put it on the yoke screw where the tube is and turn the yoke until the adaptor is positioned correctly on the tool bar.
