2005 Jeep Liberty Brake Disc Parts and Q&A
Q: How Can a Brake Disc Be Machined When It's Scored or Worn on 2005 Jeep Liberty?
A: If the brake disc for the brake is scored or wears out, it can be machined on a lathe with two cutter heads turning both sides simultaneously. Be sure to clean the disc mounting area on the lathe before placing it down or the equipment working one way could shape the disc unevenly. When working on vehicles, use an on-car lathe to match the disc to the will of its bearing. If brake discs do not pass the minimum thickness test before or after machining, they must be replaced. The drum can be turned on a drum lathe when needed, avoiding taper and uniform surface alteration by restricting the first cuts to 0.12 - 0.20 mm (0.005 - 0.008 inch). Your best surface results will come from using final working cuts between 0.025 and 0.038 mm (0.001 and 0.0015 inches). Put the drum in hat disc onto the lathe properly and use a damper strap to secure it so vibration is reduced and the surface is smooth. The largest drum diameter permitted by design is stamped or cast onto the drum in a hat disc and if machining would make the diameter greater, the drum must be replaced.
