2006 Jeep Liberty Fuel Tank Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service the Fuel Tank Module on 2006 Jeep Liberty?
A: Be sure to let go of the fuel pressure before servicing the fuel pump module; it might be under constant pressure even when the engine is off. You will find the fuel pump module and the pump module lock ring on the top of the fuel tank. The first step is to get rid of the fuel tank from the car. Check the rotation of the module by looking at the indexing arrow above. Lift the Lockring Remover/Installer 9340 to slide it against the notches found outside the lockring. That attachment comes with a 1/2 inch drive breaker bar, so fit it onto the Lockring Remover/Installer and turn it counterclockwise to remove the lockring. With the lockring off, the module will pop slightly upward, making it possible to lift the module from the fuel tank without bending the float arm. Secure the module into the opening of the fuel tank using a new gasket (fuel pump seal) during installation. Put the lockring above the fuel pump module, then turn it until the mark shows the pump and the float are aligned. Again push the Lockring Remover/Installer fully onto the lockring and turn the breaker bar clockwise until the lockring fits into all seven notches. Afterward, put the fuel tank into place.
