2006 Jeep Liberty Rocker Arm Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Rocker Arm Assembly for Right on 2006 Jeep Liberty?
A: Service or repair of the rocker arm assembly should begin by first disconnecting the negative battery cable. Take out the cylinder head cover. Make sure cylinder No. 1 is at BDC intake stroke before removing the rocker arm on cylinder No. 4. For this first cylinder, turn the crankshaft until it is at the bottom of the combustion stroke. For No. 3 and No. 5 cylinders, operate the crankshaft to bring cylinder No. 1 to the exhaust TDC position. When working on cylinders No. 2 and No. 6, turn the crankshaft so that cylinder No. 1 reaches TDC ignition stroke. With special tool 8516, press down on the valve spring so the rocker arm can be removed. Make sure the rocker arms have the area marked as concave facing the lash adjusters to prevent severe harm. Before installing the rocker arms, apply clean engine oil to them. With key blocked on the crankshaft, turn the engine until the No. 1 piston is at the lowest point on the intake stroke. With cylinder No. 1, turn the crankshaft to when No. 1 is at BDC as you shoot the cylinder. To complete cylinders No. 3 and No. 5, turn the crankshaft until cylinder No. 1 reaches the TDC exhaust position. With a mechanic's finger, hold cylinder No. 1 at TDC and rotate the crankshaft until the timing mark on cylinders No. 2 and No. 6 aligns with this location. Press the valve spring down using tool 8516 to place the rocker arm, then refit the cylinder head cover.
