2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser Tie Rod End Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Install a Tie Rod End on 2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: Make certain the collar (5) is on the inner tie rod, facing the open end towards the outer tie rod (4) and its flat edge is at the jam nut (2), before installing it on the inner tie rod threads (1). Then, put the outer tie rod (4) onto the inner tie rod (1) about the same number of turns as it was originally installed. Fit the collar around the outer tie rod end and hand-thread the jam nut down the inner tie rod until the collar remains in place, but you have not tightened anything yet. Set the tie rod heat shield (4) on the knuckle arm (3), so it is aimed away from the steering gear, then match the hole in the shield with the hole for the tie rod end. Put the outer tie rod ball stud (1) into the knuckle arm (3) hole, start threading the tie rod mounting nut (2) onto the stud. With the tie rod end stud held using a wrench, use another wrench or crowfoot wrench to tighten the nut to 55 Nm (40 ft. lbs.). After that, install the tire and wheel assembly (1) and screw in the wheel mounting nuts (3) until you reach 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.). Next, lower the vehicle, alter the front wheel toe and at the end, fix the jam nut of the tie rod to 75 Nm (55 ft. lbs.) when the wheel toe has been set correctly.
