2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser Tie Rod End Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Address Issues with a Tie Rod End on a 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: Before working on the tie rod end, raise and prop up the vehicle, undo the wheel nuts and remove the tire and wheel. Unscrew the jam nut on the tie rod and draw the collar up the inner tie rod until it is free from the outer one, before removing it. Following this, hold the outer tie rod's stud with a wrench and start loosening the nut that attaches it to the knuckle. Detach the tie rod end from the knuckle using the Remover MB991113, next, remove the outer tie rod and inner shield piece by rotating the knuckle slowly and keep track of how many turns you make. If the jam nut wasn't installed previously, place it on the tie rod threads inside, keeping the collar with the flat end touching the jam nut. Grasp the outer tie rod at the same angle you last did during installation, put the collar around it and use the jam nut to stop it from turning. Attach the tie rod heat shield to the knuckle arm and align the shield's hole with the hole in the tie rod end mount. Insert the tie rod ball stud into the knuckle arm hole, start turning on the tie rod mounting nut by hand and tighten it to 55 Nm holding the tie rod end stud still. Mount and tighten the tire and wheel by applying 135 Nm to each wheel mounting nut and lower the vehicle. Change the front wheel toe and afterward tighten the tie rod jam nut to 75 Nm.
