2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser Timing Belt Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Timing Belt on 2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: Align the crankshaft sprocket with the arrow on the oil pump housing which will set it to TDC. After that, move the camshaft timing marks so that the exhaust camshaft sprocket is below the intake camshaft sprocket and both camshaft sprockets show the arrows pointing upward. The process begins by installing the timing belt at the crankshaft, making it go around the water pump sprocket, an idler pulley, the camshaft sprockets and finally around the tensioner. Rotate the exhaust camshaft sprocket in the opposite direction to the marks, so the belt can be tightened. Hold a 6 mm Allen wrench in the top plate's hexagon hole and rotate the tensioner counterclockwise until its setting notch is aligned with the tang of the spring. With the top plate secured, turn the tensioner lock bolt to a reading of 25 Nm. When done with the Allen and torque wrenches, turn the crankshaft clockwise to its highest position and make sure two revolutions are made for the belts. After that, ensure both the crankshaft and the camshaft timing marks are in place. Inspect the spring tang to ensure it is within the given range; if so, the installation is done. In that case, go through the tensioning process again. In the end, place the upper and lower timing belt covers and attach the negative cable to the battery.
