2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser Parking Brake Shoe Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Maintain and Fix a Parking Brake Shoe on 2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: For service and repair on the parking brake shoe, you should raise and support the vehicle first. For both sides, follow the same set of steps all over again. First, take out the wheel nuts followed by removing the tire and wheel unit. In certain situations, moving the caliper piston inward a bit gives sufficient room for you to remove the caliper. You should hold the caliper on its inside part and pull outward, but don't put pressure on the piston to prevent it from breaking. After that, take out the two caliper guide pin bolts and move the top away from the adapter and up so it comes free from the machined abutment on the adapter. Make sure you hang the brake caliper from the rear strut with wire or cord to not injure the brake hose. Remove all clips that secure the rotor to the wheel studs and then move the rotor off the hub and bearing. Start by removing the dust cover on the hub and next remove the hub-bearing retaining nut. Get rid of the rear hub and bearing from the rear spindle. Take the rear brake shoe hold-down clip out of the hold-down pin, turn the adjuster wheel all the way in and remove the adjuster from the parking brakes. Skip that, loosen the lower return spring, separate the brake shoe from the anchor and cut or pull off the upper return spring, taking out both from the car or truck. Afterward, take out the hold-down clip from the pin holding the front brake shoe in place and remove the entire front brake shoe.
