How to Replace a Liftgate Hinge Without Removing the Liftgate on 2007 Jeep Commander?

You do not have to remove the liftgate to fix one or both of the hinges separately. Start by raising and holding up the liftgate with support and next, remove the liftgate support struts. Use a trim stick of the C-4755 type or one that is equivalent to release the clips holding the header trim molding in the liftgate opening and remove the molding. Put a mark on the inner panel of the liftgate at the halfway mark for the hinge liftgate. After that, take out the two hinge-to-liftgate screws and note the spot where the hinge body should go on top of the liftgate opening header. Pull the rear edge of the headliner down to reach and take out the two nuts and the one bolt that hold the hinge to the underside of the header. The last step is to take out the hinge.
