2008 Jeep Commander Liftgate Hinge Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Replace a Liftgate Hinge Without Removing the Liftgate on 2008 Jeep Commander?
A: One does not need to remove the liftgate, since the hinges can be taken out separately. To begin, lift your vehicle's tailgate and place a prop or block beneath it. After that, take off the liftgate support struts. With a trim stick C-4755 or a similar item, slide the retaining clips holding the header trim molding in place and lift the molding out of the liftgate. Mark the halfway point on the liftgate inner panel because it will help you figure out the position for the hinge liftgate. Take out the two screws joining the hinge to the liftgate and afterward, note where the hinge body half will go in the upper opening of the liftgate for later placement. Make sure to pull the headliner down from the header at the back to reach and get rid of the nuts and bolt that hold the hinge to the underside of the header. Making sure everything is flat and clear, lift the front of the car and drop the front hinge from the vehicle.
