2007 Jeep Commander Steering Shaft Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove a Steering Shaft on 2007 Jeep Commander?
A: Make sure the steering column module is in the center and secure before you remove the steering shaft. First, take out the lower coupling pinch bolt with a long extension and a swivel socket. After that, raise the vehicle and remove the left inner fender well which gives access to the intermediate shaft. Remove the intermediate shaft bearing nuts from the bracket, then from the frame remove the intermediate shaft bearing bracket. Separate the axle mounting nuts attached to the bulkhead; to reach the lower nut, remove the innermost fender fender well; reach the upper nut from above, near the master cylinder. With that done, take off the hush panel and the column access cover. Also, remove the pinch bolt at the top coupling to the column, push the shaft forward past the lines and then lift it upwards to take it out from the top by the master cylinder.
