2007 Jeep Wrangler Air Bag Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Safely Service an Air Bag Sensor in a Two-Door on 2007 Jeep Wrangler?
A: Start by turning off the supplemental restraint system so you won't face a serious risk which involves disconnecting the negative battery cable, isolating it and waiting two minutes for the system capacitor to completely discharge. Always treat the side impact sensor with care, because any impacts or drops can damage it or affect its calibration; once it's dropped, you must get a new unit to replace it. Both the front and side impact sensors can be placed anywhere on the vehicle. Begin by connecting the body wire harness connector (4) to the side impact sensor (2) connector receptacle. Attach the sensor to the weld stud of the inner B-pillar (1), so the anti-rotation pin at the back of the sensor fits neatly through the clearance hole in the B-pillar. Tighten the sensor in place by screwing and tightening the nut (3) to 8 Nm (70 in. lbs.). After fitting the sensor, install the lower plastic piece you removed back onto the B-pillar from the inside. Do not attach the negative battery cable after completing any service on a supplemental restraint system until the supplemental restraint system verification test is done.
