2008 Chrysler PT Cruiser Spindle Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Spindle on Rear Disc Brake on 2008 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: Put a fresh NEW seal (5) over the spindle (6) before you begin working on the rear disc brake. Push the spindle (6) with the seal into the rear of the disc brake adapter (3), then put them both on the end of the axle. Make sure the threads of the bolts securing the disc brake adapter and spindle to the axle are clean and smear an equal number of the bolts with Mopar(R) Stud & Bearing Mount Adhesive or other adhesive or just fit new bolts. Insert the four bolts (7) into the holes on the axle, secure both the disc brake adapter and spindle and tighten them to 95 Nm (70 ft. lbs.). Wheel speed sensor heads are installed in cars with antilock brakes into the disc brake adapter and tighten screw (3) to 12 Nm (105 in. lbs.). Connect the front routing brackets to the trailing arm's mounts and attach two bolts, hand-tightening them to 11 Nm (100 in. lbs.). Slide the hub and bearing (2) onto the spindle (6) and then attach the NEW hub nut (11), turning it until it reaches 217 Nm (160 ft. lbs.). Set up the hub and bearing dust cover (10), then add the brake rotor (8) and caliper (1) and finally secure the caliper with the caliper guide pin bolts (4) tightened to 22 Nm (192 in. lbs.) Thereafter, attach the tire and wheel system (1) and twist the wheel nuts (3) till they reach a torque of 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.). Always make sure that the brake pedal feels strong by pressing it several times after raising the vehicle before driving.
