2008 Chrysler PT Cruiser Steering Wheel Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Safely Remove a Steering Wheel on 2008 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: Prior to taking out the steering wheel, take the negative cable from the battery and set it aside, allowing the capacitor to drain for at least two minutes. Place the inner wheels in line with the car and isolate the air bag for the driver. Separate the connector on the horn wiring from the Clock Spring. With the steering wheel held in place, loosen the bolt that holds the steering wheel and push it back into the end of the shaft until you can see about 13 mm (0.5 in.) of thread poking out. Install a puller wheel on the center area over the steering shaft, being careful not to strike the wheel or shaft as it's removed. Ensure the steering wheel is straight ahead, download the wheel mount onto the column and then pull out the wheel using your puller. If you change the steering wheel, unplug the speed control wiring connector if present and note that when removing horn contacts counterclockwise from 12 o'clock, the white contacts are placed on the left and the black contacts on the right. If there are horn contacts on the steering wheel, remove them and if your vehicle has speed control, unfasten the front and rear screws joining the switch to the steering wheel and remove the switch. After that, unwind the screws securing the rear cover to the steering wheel and remove the rear cover.
