2009 Chrysler PT Cruiser Steering Wheel Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Safely Detach a Steering Wheel on 2009 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: Before you remove the steering wheel, cut off the negative (-) cable from the battery and keep the battery isolation switch on for at least two minutes. Set the wheels straight and then take out the driver's air bag. Unplug the horn wiring connector that's connected to the Clock Spring. Firmly set your hands on the steering wheel and use a wrench to remove the bolt screwed into the steering column shaft, then slide the bolt back into the shaft so that roughly 13 mm (0.5 in.) of its thread is visible from the end of the shaft, so the puller has something to grab on to. No matter the type of puller you use, be sure not to knock or knock the steering wheel or shaft while you remove it. Set the steering wheel straight ahead and remove the wheel using the puller and the right bolt. When exchanging the steering wheel, separate from the connector any speed control wiring if it exists and remember: white contacts are on the left and black contacts on the right as the horn contacts proceed in a counterclockwise direction from the 12 o'clock connector. Open the steering wheel to undo the horn contacts, remove the front screw, then remove both rear screws when the switch is freed from mounting. After that, take out the screws holding the rear cover to the steering wheel and lift off the rear cover.
