2008 Dodge Caliber A/C Accumulator Parts and Q&A
Q: How Does an A/C Accumulator Prevent System Malfunction and Compressor Damage on 2008 Dodge Caliber?
A: It is very important to adjust the oil level in the refrigerant system when servicing, as failure to do so may cause the A/C system to stop working and damage the compressor. If the A/C compressor inside the car fails, the A/C accumulator must be changed to stop more damage. Whenever you replace several A/C parts, look at the Refrigerant Oil Capacities to find out the right amount of oil to use. If only the A/C accumulator is being changed, use 30 milliliters (1.0 fluid ounce) of the recommended oil. Always make sure to put new rubber O-ring seals and metal gaskets in place whenever a refrigerant line has leaked. Attach the accumulator mounting bracket with the retaining bolts that are tightened to 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.). Get rid of any tapes or plugs covering the refrigerant line fittings and accumulator ports on the line set you've opened. Apply clean refrigerant oil to new rubber O-ring seals, set them and the new gaskets on the suction line and accumulator fittings and always insert the required Genuine O-rings for the R-134a system. Link the upper A/C suction line to the accumulator inlet tube and set the retaining nut at 5 Nm (44 in. lbs.). Place the A/C accumulator into the mounting bracket and tighten it with the retaining band and bolt, using 8 Nm (71 in. lbs.). Screw the lower A/C suction line onto the accumulator outlet tube and tighten the retaining nut to 5 Nm (44 in. lbs.). Place the front of the right front wheel house splash shield on the body and secure it with three push-pin retainers and three screws. Set in place the front wheel, bring the vehicle down and reconnect the negative battery cable. No vacuum should be present in your car's A/C system when the engine is running or damage to the compressor could occur. Evacuate the coolant system and then if you are replacing the A/C accumulator, add 30 milliliters (1.0 fluid ounce) of oil. Before installing multiple refrigerant components, find the Refrigerant Oil Capacities and use them to decide the oil quantity needed. Now, you should charge the refrigerant system according to the manufacturer's specifications.
