2008 Dodge Caliber Brake Master Cylinder Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove and Replace a Brake Master Cylinder Without ABS on 2008 Dodge Caliber?
A: To replace the brake master cylinder without ABS, put the proportioning valves into their spots in the brake master cylinder and secure them by tightening to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.). You must bleed the brake master cylinder before installing it. Bleed the brake master cylinder on the bench and wipe the part of the power brake booster where the master seal touches. If you don't find a vacuum seal over the brake master cylinder mounting flange, take out the old seal and put a new one over it, ensuring you push it firmly in its groove. If difficulties are found while inserting, allow the brake master cylinder push rod to line up with the booster push rod again. Match the mounting holes on the brake master cylinder with the studs on the booster, making sure there is proper alignment and then slide the brake master cylinder in until it touches the surface of the booster. Replace the two brake master cylinder mounting nuts and tighten each to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.). For those with a manual transaxle and a new reservoir, remove the central portion from the "V" groove in the clutch actuator port to let hydraulic fluid to the clutch and throw out the section you just cut. Set the clutch actuator hose into the reservoir port and fit in the hose clamp. Secure the two rear brake tubes to the brake master cylinder with proportioning valves by tightening the tube nuts to 17 Nm (150 in. lbs.); then do the same for the two front brake tubes. Fit the wiring harness to include the brake fluid level switch. There should always be a reservoir blocker fitted onto the brake master cylinder brake fluid reservoir to avoid fire risks if an accident occurs; if not already on the reservoir, install it by taking out the retaining tab and holding it around the neck of the reservoir. Attach the negative battery cable and then put the brake master cylinder reservoir to its proper level. Be sure that the brake pedal works firmly before driving the car; if it doesn't, drain the brake fluid and inspect for fluid leaks. Be certain to test how the brakes respond by driving the car during a road test.
