2007 Dodge Caliber Brake Master Cylinder Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Replace a Brake Master Cylinder with ABS on 2007 Dodge Caliber?
A: Before installation, bench bleed the ABS brake master cylinder first. Wipe the surface at the attachment point for the vacuum seal on the rear brake master cylinder and be careful not to introduce any substance into the booster. Replace the seal on the brake master cylinder mounting flange (1) by installing a new vacuum seal (2), unless the previous seal is fresh and fits well; if it's not, take out the old seal and put the new one in its groove, checking that it stays in place. Should resistance be experienced when installing the brake master cylinder, place the brake master cylinder push rod back in line with the booster push rod and try again. Put the brake master cylinder mounting holes over the power brake booster mounting studs, making sure the piston rod also fits and then, carefully, put the brake master cylinder in place against the power brake booster. Assemble and tighten two new mounting nuts (3) for the brake master cylinder to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.). If a new reservoir is being added to a manual transaxle, simply puncture the clutch actuator port (2) at the center of the "V" groove to uncover and use the hydraulic clutch port (1) and discard the severed plug (3). Place the clutch actuator hose (2) onto the reservoir port (1) and hold it there with a hose clamp. Attach the ends of the primary and secondary brake tubes (1 and 2) to the brake master cylinder, secure them by hand with tube nuts to 17 Nm (150 in. lbs.) and hook up the wiring harness connector (1) to the brake fluid level switch (2). You should install a reservoir blocker (1) on the fluid reservoir (2) always to prevent issues if there's an accident, insert the blocker around the reservoir mouth, close it as needed and lock it by sliding the release tab into place. Join up the negative cable on the battery and make sure that the brake master cylinder reservoir is filled to the correct point. Check the brake pedal is secure before you begin driving; otherwise, drain the hydraulic system and inspect for leaks. Check the brakes one more time during a road test before using the vehicle.
