2008 Dodge Viper Parking Brake Cable Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to install a parking brake cable on 2008 Dodge Viper?
A: Make sure to run the cable along the framework and then, from the inside access hole in the tunnel, push the lever end into the body and slide the cable housing until the retainer clicks into place. Set the three cable routing clamps in position, then use screws and tighten them to 10 Nm (90 in. lbs.). Slide the caliper cable from the cable bracket end and into the caliper and insert the other end of the cable through the caliper bracket. Then, connect the other end to the apply lever on the caliper. Take out enough cable so you can install it on the pivot wheel and push back any extra cable into its housing. Secure the ABS wheel speed sensor to the parking brake cable and then fit the wheel and tire assembly, applying pressure to step on the wheel until the clamping bolts are tightened to 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.). Reposition the vehicle so that the bottom of its back wheels barely touches the floor, then join the parking brake cables to the equalizer on the parking brake lever output cable, watching out for injuries when the vehicle moves. Check that the parking brake cables are correctly in place and follow the cable track on the lever. Take out the screwdriver or pin from the parking brake lever system and watch it move up as you cycle the lever. Lift the vehicle and make sure that the rear wheels can spin when the lever is up, but will not spin when the lever is fully applied. After that, lower the car and attach the center console before taking away the blocks from the tire and wheel units.
