2009 Dodge Viper Parking Brake Cable Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Maintain and Fix a Parking Brake Cable on 2009 Dodge Viper?
A: You should start by blocking your vehicle's tires with chocks so the wheel assemblies don't move when you release the parking brake lever. Place the parking brake and remove the center console from its position. Knock the parking brake lever handle into the released position, but make sure you don't touch or damage the automatic adjusting feature's spring which is nearly 19 pounds. Grab the parking brake lever output cable and lift it until it's possible to put a screwdriver, pin punch or pin through the left-side hole of the lever device, enabling you to stop the automatic adjustment and relieve the parking brake cable stress. Take out both rear parking brake cables from the equalizer where they attach to the parking brake cables. To release the cable housing, push the parking brake cable retainer in the body with the 12-point end of a 13 mm wrench until the fingers collapse, then push the housing through the wrench and out of the vehicle. Hold up the car and take out the wheel and tire set. Unattach the sensor from the parking brake lead, place it behind the pivot wheel and the brake lever and draw the cable out until you can take the cable off the pivot wheel. Take off the cable end from the levers on the caliper and next pull it out of the mounting bracket that holds it. Unscrew the three cable routing clamps, then take the parking brake cable out.
