Jeep Commander Washer Pump Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove the Washer Pump on Jeep Commander?
    A:
To start, remove and separate the negative Battery Cable before handling the windshield washer pump. Guide the Steering Wheel toward one side of the front wheels and raise the vehicle with help. Break the plastic push-in fasteners that hold the forward left front Wheelhouse splash shield to the inner panel and front fascia. Lift the end of the splash shield that faces the fender away from both the panel and the front fascia to get to the washer pump/motor. Take the washer pump motor's dash wire harness connector and headlamp wire harness connector out of the connector that connects to the motor. Notice how the hoses are installed before you remove them, so you can quickly put them back in place later. Remove the washer hoses from the pump bars and let the washer fluid fall into a container so you can reuse it. Pull on the top of the housing that covers the washer pump/motor, as this will disengage the snap post on the motor from the receptacle in the reservoir. After that, pull the lower section of the pump/motor housing outward, twisting as you go, so that the pump inlet nipple is released from the rubber seal at the bottom of the reservoir. Last, pull out and throw away the rubber grommet seal that was in the washer pump mounting hole in the reservoir.
  • Q: How to Install a Washer Pump for Your Windshield on Jeep Commander?
    A:
Just before installing the pump, apply clean washer fluid to a new rubber grommet and insert it into the new washer pump hole located on the outboard side of the Washer Reservoir (4). Guide the barbed pipe inlet depressor of the washer pump/motor (2) into the rubber grommet in the reservoir and press the pump down until the nipple sits securely. Put the snap post over the top of the motor housing into the receptacle in the washer and press till the post clicks. Both front and rear washer hoses must be connected to the correct outlet nipples on the washer pump for the systems to function correctly. Later, attach the front and rear washer hoses (3) back to the barbed outlet nipples and then hook up the headlamp and dash wire harness connector (1) to the bottom of the motor. Replace the plastic push-in fasteners in the front Wheelhouse area, rock your vehicle down, hook the negative cable of the battery back up and insert the washer fluid into the washer reservoir.
